Favorite Beers 2016

10. On the Wings of Armageddon-DC Brau: Great DIPA, nice punchy hop blend that doesn’t let up.

9. Gose Gone Wild-Stillwater: Gose beers have been having a great moment, and Gose Gone Wild using Westbrook’s Gose as a base and then adding wild yeast is one of the best out there. A great beer to sit at the pool and drink all day.

8. Permeant Funeral-Three Floyds: I have had many many many hoppy beers, but this one stand out as totally unique. It has a fairly weak malt profile but a robust and super unique combo of hops, that is incredibly bitter, fruity and piney.

7. Bourbon Barrel Aged Grand Reserve-Parish: I normally really don’t love barley wines but this one is fantastic. A great boozy balance of the strong complex malts of the barley wine mix well with the bourbon flavors from the barrel. One of the best of the style.

6. Raspberry Tart-New Glarus: The fruit beers made by New Glarus are extraordinary. The amazing flavor mix of raspberries and Belgian yeast is unlike any beer I have ever had, or probably will ever have in the future. Is it even a beer?

5. La Folie-New Belgium: This was a great barrel aged sour, with prominent wood and sharp sour flavors. It’s also fairly readily available, and shows the power of spreading sours.

4. Ghost in the Machine-Parish: Parish’s second beer on the list. A great DIPA, that is light and flavorful, with a floral hop mix. Could drink this all day, very well made.

3. Pliny the Elder-Russian River: Famous, and hard to get. Like Permeant Funeral, this beer is unique, it has the lightness of Ghost in the Machine but with a strong and more assertive dry hop profile.

2. Supplication-Russian River: Near sour perfection sweetness and tart even out almost perfectly. I do wish the wine barrel aging had been a bit more prominent, but that’s knit picking at this point.

1. Bourbon County Brand Stout-Goose Island: Whenever I think a bourbon barrel aged stout I will think of this. Everything about this beer is big, the bitterness of the stout, the sweetness of barrel aging, and the burn of the 14% abv. It does what it does flawlessly.
